Polesaver Rods

Polesaver Rods are a solid slow release fungicide insecticide wood preservative in the shape of rods. The rods contain boron and fluoride as the active ingredients, the concentration of which is more than sufficient to stop decay and termite attack in the heartwood of standing poles. Each rod is available in 8 mm, 10 mm, 14 mm and 18 mm sizes.

The chalk like rods are inserted into pre-drilled holes around the groundline region.

How do the rods work?

In the presence of moisture inside the wood, the rods slowly dissolve releasing the active ingredients, killing active decay and providing protection to the sound wood from further attack. As the rods are in solid form , workers will have minimum contact with the chemicals when inserting them into predrilled holes, resulting in cleaner, safer operations. A further advantage is that they will not leak through the cracks or checks that are found in many poles, being rapidly lost into the surrounding environment. The rods are effective in protecting wooden poles from biodeterioration for up to 5 years.

The Polesaver Rods were developed and produced in Australia by Preschem Pty Ltd. The technology has been patented and is now being exported around the world.

Installation of Preschem Polesaver Rods

Preschem Polesaver Rods are recommended for the remedial treatment of centre rot and termite attack in standing poles and other timber structures subject to the ingress of water. The rods are able to deliver up to 1.3 kg/m3 of elemental fluorine in the treated zone. These loadings are more than adequate to inhibit most decay, fungi and insects.

Directions

In poles with a circumference of up to 950mm. Drill three equally spaced abaxial holes of 16mm diameter at about 20o to the vertical into each pole, each hole starting about 150mm above groundline, extending to 300mm below groundline. Drill four holes in poles with a circumference greater than 950mm.

Insert three Preschem Polesaver rods into each hole

Seal each hole with a tapered plastic plug.

Precautions for use

For use as a wood preservative. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use synthetic rubber/PVC gloves when handling. The material is non-flammable. Store in the closed original container in a cool, well ventilated position. Keep packages dry. Do not expose boxes to moisture or humidity. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
